Philadelphia Ceili Group

Schedule: (Check back for Stages and Times)

Have you ever wanted to learn how to Irish dance? Are you looking for a family friendly community rich in Irish culture or maybe you're curious about traditions like contra dance? This workshop will teach you to dance the steps of a Traditional Irish Ceili dance to a live Irish band composed of the best local musicians in Philadelphia. Brothers John & Jimmy McGillian have been staples in Philadelphia's Irish music scene, playing for Ceilis since they were young with their parents who both played accordion and emigrated from Ireland. Maura Dwyer and Rob Curto are best known for their melodies backing The John Byrne band and can be found throughout sessions in Philly. The Philadelphia Ceili Group has been entwined with the PFS since its early days in Mt. Airy with Mick Moloney and Eugene O’Donnell charming audiences with their music. The Ceili Group, represented by Courtney Malley and Rosaleen McGill, will ensure you know the steps to dance a Haymaker’s Jig, The Siege of Ennis and Shoe The Donkey, to name a few! Join in for a dance or stay to learn all of the steps in time to practice them at the Sunday Celtic Afternoon. Bring a good sense of humor, water and shoes you can skip in!
