Being born in the same town as Dolly Parton and sharing kinship with Merle Haggard, Jack Murray enjoys the unique challenges of navigating elevated expectations. He’s performed in the round with some of Nashville’s finest songwriters. He’s performed at the Spring Gulch Festival, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, and Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem, and has opened shows for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Commander Cody Band, Joe Ely, Butch Hancock, and many others.
Jack Murray and the Blue Tarp Wranglers are kindred musical spirits to exuberant improvisational Americana bands like Doug Sahm’s and NRBQ. Besides animating Jack’s remarkable songs, the “Tarps” are built to handle all manner of deeply-rooted American music, from folk music to the blues--and they can rock with the best. They are as at-home with classic Nashville country (Hank Williams and Merle Haggard) as they are with the music of Townes Van Zandt and Billie Joe Shaver.
