To Jason McGovern, founder and leader of The Describers, the album is as much a reckoning with personal “new worlds” as it is about “no worlds.”
“Over the past few years, I’ve been in this weird place where I’m actually opening up myself to myself and to things that might bring some real contentment,” said McGovern. “All that while it feels like society, the earth itself and maybe even the idea of a shared reality are coming undone.”
“No Worlds” was largely recorded and mixed by McGovern in his home studio, Eel Diner Jukebox, though he also did significant work at Retro City Studios in Philadelphia and Kawari Sound in Wyncote, PA, with Matty Muir.
McGovern has been releasing music and performing as and with The Describers since 2018. He also collaborates with other artists in the Philadelphia area representing a wide range of styles, most recently playing keyboards for The Tisburys. He also served as co-producer for their 2025 record “A Still Life Revisited
